The Boondock Saints
(Yeah, it's that guy from Blade 2. Murphy is Scud from Blade 2, the weasle gizmo-maker who betrays Blade. I know he looks familiar, I just saved you at least ten minutes trying to put name-to-face. You're welcome.)
Hey, this was a really fun movie! I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The sort of non-linear storytelling in this movie was about a thousand times more effective than Ichi the Killer (which, by the way, got 2 Netflix "stars" and won't get reviewed here...although I'll happily dis it if you ask me about it personally). The action sequences are not the grandoise spectacles of a John Woo flick, and for that I'm grateful. Let John Woo do John Woo; this was something different. (Speaking of Woo, this makes me cringe.) Willem Dafoe was classic. There were only a few scenes I'd label "extraneous", I felt the whole production was a rather nice, tight story. When you take into account that the movie is really about everyone else (which is best exemplafied during the credits) and not really about the title characters, you'll go in with the best expectations and I don't think you'll be disappointed. In fact I was so resoundingly refreshed my this movie that when I was playing a little follow-up, looking up cast member names on Netflix, I immediately started wondering, "Dag, this movie was made all the way back in 1999? Other than that movie about Ron Jeremy, why the hell hasn't Troy Duffy done something else interesting?" Well it looks like Overnight just might answer that question.
Netflix "star" rating: 4
